The Matusheks: Living Fully and Rooted in Westfield

On a typical Saturday in Scofield Farms, you might find Alex and Jori Matushek chasing their giggling toddler through the yard, coffee mugs in hand and a workout mat still unrolled on the driveway. Life isn’t quiet—but it’s full. For the Matusheks, living in Westfield means purposeful routines, everyday joy, and the kind of love that shows up in small but steady ways.

The couple met in Anderson, Indiana, while Jori was finishing nursing school and Alex was already working as a pharmacist. From the start, they were drawn together by shared values—faith, wellness, adventure, and a desire to live intentionally. After dating for a few years, they married in 2018.

Today, the Matusheks live in Scofield Farms, a community they’ve called home since 2020. “We moved here during the pandemic, and it ended up being one of the best decisions we’ve made,” Jori says. “There’s so much green space, a pool, playground, great walking trails—and neighbors who truly look out for each other. The community spirit here is strong and it feels like a close-knit family.”

Their 1.5-year-old son, Trice, is at the center of their world these days. “He’s busy, curious, fearless,” Jori says with a laugh. “He keeps us on our toes in the best way.” Trice recently started toddler gymnastics—mainly as a way to burn off some of that boundless energy—and has been in Infant Swim Rescue (ISR) classes for a full year, which Alex and Jori view as an essential layer of safety, especially with summer approaching.

“Being around pools or lakes, we want him to be confident in the water,” Jori explains. “ISR has been amazing—it’s hard work, but watching him learn how to float and swim at this age has been so rewarding.” When they’re not wrangling toddler schedules or cleaning up after Trice’s latest snack adventure, both Alex and Jori are deeply committed to their careers—careers that serve others in very real ways.
Alex is a Senior Medical Science Liaison for Otsuka Pharmaceutical, where he uses his Doctorate of Pharmacy (Purdue University) and MBA (Southern Indiana University) to
bridge the gap between research and practice. He travels across Indiana to work with The Matusheks: Living Fully and Rooted in Westfield healthcare providers and institutions, staying at the forefront of clinical developments. “His role allows him to blend his expertise in pharmacy with his passion for improving healthcare outcomes,” Jori says. Jori received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Anderson University and then went on to earn her Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from the University of Michigan. She currently works as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, focusing on pediatric endocrinology and diabetes. Her work is especially personal—she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in her early 20s. “That experience shaped so much of who I am,” she says. “It gave me empathy and perspective—and a real passion for supporting kids and families going through the same thing.”
She also volunteers with the Diabetes Youth Foundation of Indiana (DYFI), which focuses on educating, encouraging, and empowering children living with Type 1 diabetes. Volunteers can participate in various roles, such as assisting with residential summer camps, day camps, family and teen weekends, and other outreach programs. Jori serves as the Co-Medical Director for their summer camp. “Camp is one of my favorite things,” she says. “It’s more than just fun—it gives kids confidence,
independence, and a chance to connect with others who understand what they’re facing. That kind of support can change a kid’s life.”
Though their weekdays are full with work and parenting, the Matusheks say their faith is what anchors everything they do. “Our family is involved at Traders Point Church, where we actively participate in the community, grow in faith, and serve others,” says Jori.
“From attending services and small groups, we are committed to living out the values of love, service, and spiritual growth alongside our church family.” Staying active is also part of their lifestyle, even if it means getting creative. “We’re both into health and fitness, and we try to find time for it—even if that means doing a quick workout in the driveway,” Alex says, smiling. “It’s not perfect, but we make it work and enjoy the challenge together.”
Their shared love of adventure has taken them all over the world—Greece, Spain, Portugal, the Bahamas, and across the U.S. But one of their most meaningful family goals is visiting all the U.S. National Parks before Trice graduates high school. “Trice already loves being outside,” says Alex. “Getting to share nature with him—whether it’s a hike or just chasing bugs in the yard—is one of my favorite things about being a dad.” Jori adds, “One of our favorite trips so far was to Acadia National Park in Maine. We hiked, explored, and watched the sunrise from Cadillac Mountain—it was freezing, but absolutely unforgettable.”
Despite their love of travel, they always look forward to coming home to Westfield. “We love this town,” Alex says. “It’s clean, family-focused, and filled with people who care. There’s a sense of pride here that’s really special.” The couple has started their own small family traditions as well. “We’re big fans of coffee—whether we’re brewing up our favorite blends at home or checking out the latest local coffee spots,” says Jori. “It’s our little ritual, though it’s often interrupted by the chaos (and charm!) of toddler-parent life. But hey, those caffeine breaks are a must to keep up with the little one’s energy.”
As they reflect on this chapter of life—career growth, toddlerhood, and all the joy in between—they’re learning to lean into the messiness with gratitude. If they had to pick a family motto, it might be: “A healthy body and a faithful heart are the cornerstones of a life well-lived. When we nurture our physical strength and our spiritual devotion, we create a harmonious balance that empowers us to face life’s challenges with grace and resilience. Together, they form the foundation of a fulfilling and purposeful journey.”
They’re the kind of family that makes you feel welcome just by being themselves— open, steady, and grounded in what matters most. And as Westfield continues to grow,
families like the Matusheks help keep its heart right where it belongs: focused on kindness, a spirit of togetherness, and making everyone feel welcomed and valued.
