Completing their family are their pets: Shepherd, a 4-year-old rescue German Shepherd, and Lenny, a 4-year-old rescue cat. The two have a unique relationship, living on different floors of the house and occasionally glaring at each other through the stairs.
The Meyers-von Kienast family is very active and enjoys various hobbies. “We want to lead by example for our girls in fitness, faith, or even taking on new endeavors, no matter what age. In life, we’re meant to embrace new challenges, that’s how we all grow,” notes Jenny. They spend a lot of time on their boat at Morse Reservoir, where Jeff excels at wakesurfing and Jenny has learned to drive the boat. Jeff is also into dirt biking and archery, while Jenny recently learned to play the piano. Jeff is a few classes away from earning his blue belt in jiujitsu, and he’s teaching Jenny to play chess. “I haven’t beaten him yet, but I’m determined,” Jenny shares.
Jeff has been a coach with WYSI since 2021. He started by coaching two years of soccer with Skylar and has moved on to coaching five seasons of softball, including head coaching her All-Star team this summer. “Part of our family values are to serve others, especially our community. Jenny and I have found a passion in helping our youth.”
Jenny has been a Sunday school teacher at St. Elizabeth Seton since 2017, though she recently took a break after a difficult pregnancy loss. She is open about her experience, hoping to support other women going through similar situations. “The experience isn’t spoken about enough,” Jenny says. “In addition to my supportive husband, I was thankful I knew someone who shared their experience before I even knew I would need them. I pray I can offer that support for someone else.” The family attends TPCC in Carmel, where the girls are active in youth group. They also remain connected to their Catholic roots at St. Elizabeth Seton.
The Meyers-von Kienast family resides in Viking Meadows in Westfield, a community they deeply appreciate. Jenny and her daughters moved there in 2016, drawn by the location, the Monon Trail, and the friendly neighborhood. Jeff and his daughter moved in after their engagement, finding the community just as welcoming.
“We love how neighborly everyone is and how we can let our children ride bikes or play together, and everyone looks out for each other,” says Jenny. “Some of our neighbors are like family to us. My girls have had the same neighborhood sitter since my youngest was three. Every year on the last day of school, we celebrate the kids with an extremely fun water balloon fight when they get off the bus, followed by an ice cream social. Our kids look forward to it every year.”
