During this same time, Cooper was diagnosed with an infection that required him to be hospitalized as well. Tyler recalls the whirlwind of emotions as he shuttled between Chelsea and Cooper in different parts of the hospital, managing their care while navigating the early days of fatherhood.
“It was one of the most challenging times of our lives,” Tyler reflects. “But through it all, we leaned on our faith, each other, and the incredible support of our friends and family.”
The family credits their close friend, Stacia Scott, for helping save Chelsea’s life. A nurse practitioner with expertise in labor and delivery, Stacia’s advice to seek immediate care was critical. Inspired by this experience, Stacia went on to found Postpartum Care
USA, the country’s first postpartum clinic, based right here in Hamilton County. After a week of uncertainty and recovery, the Shippys were finally able to return home, united as a family of three. Chelsea faced a longer road to recovery, with peripartum cardiomyopathy initially limiting her ability to have more children. Yet, in true Shippy fashion, they faced this challenge head-on. Chelsea not only recovered but was later cleared to expand their family. Now, after another fertility journey, the Shippys are excitedly awaiting the arrival of a baby girl in February 2025.
Their experiences have profoundly shaped their perspective on life. Their family motto, “We get to” instead of “we have to,” serves as a daily reminder of the blessings in their lives. “When we’re in the middle of those sleepless nights or never-ending chores, we stop and think about how lucky we are to get to do these things,” Chelsea explains. “It’s a perspective we hope to pass on to our children.”
Balancing careers and family life has always been part of the Shippys’ dynamic. Chelsea, an Indiana University graduate with a degree in Sport Communication, has built a successful career in IT sales with SHI International. Tyler, a Purdue University alum with a degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision, works in commercial construction supply sales for Jobsite Supply. Their shared drive and dedication to their careers have helped them create a solid foundation for their family. The Shippys moved to Westfield in March 2023 to be closer to family and the community Chelsea grew up in. Their neighborhood, with its welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of community, feels like the perfect place to raise their growing family.
Tyler and Chelsea love meeting new neighbors and look forward to getting involved in local events and activities. Sports are another cornerstone of their household. Tyler is an avid football fan, while Chelsea eagerly awaits March Madness every year. The family’s love for sports occasionally sparks a playful rivalry, especially during college basketball season, as they cheer for opposing teams—Tyler for Purdue and Chelsea for Indiana University.
When they’re not chasin after Cooper, the Shippys enjoy traveling to Florida a couple of times a year to spend time with family and recharge by the ocean. These trips offer precious moments of relaxation and connection, which they cherish deeply.
The Shippy family’s journey is a testament to perseverance, faith, and gratitude.
They’ve faced life’s challenges with resilience and emerged stronger, more connected, and ready to embrace the future. With their second child on the way, Tyler and Chelsea are excited to continue building their story in Westfield, one filled with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the life they’ve created. “Don’t hesitate to say hello if you see us out and about,” Tyler adds. “We’d love to connect and share stories—especially if you’re navigating toddler life or the ups and downs of fertility and postpartum journeys!”
